Duku Product Design Shortlisted for Product Innovation Award

Updated: Dec 8, 2023

Duku Product Design has been shortlisted in the FSB South West region awards in the Business Product & Innovation category after entering our innovative work on pop-up electric vehicle (EV) chargers and accessibility.

Business and Product Innovation Award

The annual awards celebrate the work of small businesses across the UK and judges, says the FSB, will be looking for examples of ground-breaking innovation in this category.

It’s always good to get recognition from third parties, so we’re pleased to have been shortlisted for our work on the world’s first-ever pop-up EV charging stations,” said Duku director Andrew Aylesbury.

We’ve worked with several expert partners on projects to design, develop and test these pop-ups, and the technology we’ve been instrumental in creating is already being rolled out in Dundee. This success follows on from trials we ran in Oxford and builds on our learning.”

Last year, we won a slice of £20m funding to help bring the world of zero emission electric vehicles one step closer, one of 31 projects being funded by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEM) in partnership with Innovate UK.

We've also been working with mobility consultancy Urban Foresight, focusing on the development of a new EV charge point design that will be more accessible for older drivers, or those with disabilities. They collaborated with Dundee City Council to explore and trial prototype designs.

We passionately believe that EVs have a critical role to play in helping the UK reduce its carbon emissions,” added Andrew. “We’re proud to be working in this area as it’s absolutely the right thing for us to be doing – but it would be great to win external recognition for our achievements, too!”
