Frequently Asked Questions
Some useful information to get you started
How much does it cost to develop an idea?
It depends on the size, complexity, number of components, materials it is made from and whether you plan to license or produce the product yourself. We create a bespoke proposal for every idea we receive. After speaking with you to understand the idea and intended plan, we lay out all the costs, timescales and steps necessary to reach your goal. We do this upfront and free of charge and your idea remains confidential whether you proceed with us or not.
How do I know if my idea has been done before?
Finding out if the idea is novel is a very good starting point, this can be done to some extent with thorough web searching but that will not give a view on whether the idea has been protected via a patent. Even if the product does not appear to be available to buy somebody could well have protected the idea which would prevent you from doing the same without infringing on their patent.
We offer patent searches to determine if there are any patents in existence that will impact on your proposed design.
How do I know if my idea is any good?
The first question is ‘would you buy one?’ If the answer is yes and you’re confident there are other people who would also want it then it likely has a market. There are other factors to consider, such as:
- Can it be made?
- Can it be produced for a cost people would pay for it?
- Does it have advantages over other products in the market?
We can help by reviewing your idea and giving honest feedback from the start. We can also help expand on the initial idea and use our experience to broaden its appeal, increase the functionality and protect the key features.
